Switch from Typo to WordPress

Posted by Ronnie Zownir on December 20, 2009

I switched this blog from Typo to WordPress today. The transition was smooth. The toughest part was replicating my custom theme for use in WordPress. I had used Typo because it was a Rails application and Rails is my thing. Unfortunately, Typo is a frustration. It should have been called SNAFU! Upgrades were always one step forward, two steps back. I couldn’t ignore the alternatives any longer. My initial premise for using Typo was rather silly and I figured I might as well give WordPress a shot. Here goes…

Update, 15 hours later: Well, it looks like a new version of Typo just came out, version 5.4. Although it’s a minor version bump, it’s a major version revision. At first glance, I see that all of the bugs that frustrated me have been worked out! The admin interface is simple, clean, and polished. I probably would have stayed with Typo had it been updated a week earlier. However, I am still glad I made the switch to WordPress. Although Typo has gotten better by leaps and bounds, WordPress blows its doors off. At least that’s my first impression.
